Timber flooring – for the warmth and natural beauty of wood
Timber floors create a sense of style and warmth to a home or work environment. From a sustainable source, timber is the environmentally friendly choice and has high insulation properties. Wood floors are durable, and with a bit of care are easy to maintain, making themt a popular choice.
Wanaka Wood Floors can advise you on timber flooring options and provide the necessary expertise to ensure you end up with the best solution, professionally finished.
You will need to choose between an engineered or solid wood floor. One is not necessarily better than the other, both have their strengths and produce a quality floor. Find out which of the two best suits your needs, specific to our local environment, by talking to one of our staff.
Timber flooring colours & characteristics
When choosing the “look” you want for your project, it is important to consider which type of timber species, its grain, colour and hardness. Timber is a natural product so variations will occur.
Natural timber colours depend of tree species available, and there can be colour variations within the same species too. Colour choice is important e.g. lighter timber colours appear to make a room more spacious and brighter.
There are often different grades within the timber options – higher grades are more consistent in appearance and suit a modern environment, while rustic or antique grade timbers usually have knots, colour variations and markings for more character. It will depend on your preference and the look you’re trying to achieve as to which grade of timber you choose.
Board width & Other Considerations
Solid Wood Flooring is most commonly supplied in 19mm thick boards, with standard widths of boards are 85mm, 128mm and 180mm but vary from 65mm to 200mm wide, depending on the timber type chosen.
Other factors to consider are board width, hardness of timber (durability required), nail options, and the type of ‘feel’ you require from the floor (i.e. the type of sub-flooring supporting system).
Engineered floors also have a range of options available.
A wide range of finishes can be applied to your floor to create your finish – including Hardwax Oil, oil finishes and polyurethane finishes – moisture cured or water based. We can also colour your floor
